Final Project

For my last project, the original idea was to create a god from myth. However, I change to create a monster from old Chinese myth, because we have a fixed mode for god or fairy. The monster is much easy to make more real for viewers, because a monster can looks like anything. The monster I created that was called Qiling in old Chinese myth. It has dragon’s head, tiger’s teeth, lion’s body, fish’s scales, horse’s hoof, and around fire.

As a monster, the most important thing is to give viewers a strong and afraid feeling. I spend lot of time at the monster’s eyes, because eyes are the best contraction for viewers. Furthermore, every scale from the body was fixed by Photoshop, because the high quality scales at body can make the monster more vivid. Those fire that were around the monster’ body, used different color. The main color was red, but all the fire had different tiny changes that from dark to light.

All in all, I do feel my monster is successful, because it makes viewers believe my monster is strong and afraid. Even the viewer don’t know the Qiling in old Chinese myth, I believe my last project can let they know something about it.

First Year Graduate Exhibition

It has an art gallery on the Baker center 4^th floors. About the art gallery, there has some artworks were made by the best students who graduate from art school.

The first project I saw that is “Trapped” which was made by Basil Zada. The main structure of that project is made up by plastic bottles, and the behind of project also has a camera with some colorful lights. The “Trapped” looks like a rock shape; however, with the colorful lights, it more likes a real rock in the space. The camera also is a nice part of the project. It likes a witness who record that important moment. The best part of this project I think that is those lights. Those lights not only make the project real, but also give a beautiful feeling when I viewed it. I thought was enjoying that moment.

The second piece of artistic work I like is actually related to my background, who was my great chairman Zedong Mao in China. These works were created by Chengxun Han, who is also a Chinese. I could figure out what he created as soon as I saw it in the museum. He made it exactly like Mr. Mao in reality indicating how excellent his work was. I also like the background colors, which highlight the major parts in the works. However, I am not clear about why the artist put little black dots and images, probably the artist wanted to show the complex times that Mao went through according to my knowledge about Chinese history.

Last but not least, I really like Michelle Ensch’s “Hanging Seasons”, which was created in 2010 by watercolor and adobe illustrator. The four seasons grabbed my eyes because of its soft colors. The first one on the left was in similar colors as blue and purple, so as the four one on the right used yellow and orange. These colors are alike making the whole picture in harmony. I guess the blue one stands for winter, and the yellow one stands for fall. However, the two pieces in the middle used contrastive colors, especially the third one, Michelle used pink and green making me imagine summer and blooming flowers. Actually, I like the third piece most because the colors are so matched and pretty cute.

All in all, it was really a good experience for me to have seen this perfect artistic work. I like them and I think the ideas are very creative and every enjoyable.

Stop Motion

For this project, I was going to make 3 life stages that are baby stage, puberty, and mature stage, for soda (Pepsi, 7 up, and Dr. Pepper); however, I only fined 2 stages in my video for now. In the baby stages I show those sodas are happy dancing. In the puberty, I show those sodas drink at party, and get hurt after drunk. For the music part, I really have no idea. Every time I want to change the time, my windows movie maker has not response, so I need do it again. Final, I just give up the timing for the music in my video. I will finish the 3th part of my video before this quarter, because I also want to see it.

Kennedy Museum

On last Monday, January 30^th, our class went to the Kennedy Museum, and it was very fun. We visited lot of artwork from OU teacher. All the artworks are different style, and showed the personal emotion in it.

The painting which I like the most is a black and white painting. The painting is an abstract design paining and only uses black and white. More color layering and emotion are the different with others black and white paining, and I fell some quit and sad emotions from the painting.

Post #2 Fairy

It is my first time to use Photoshop. For this picture, I use stars to introduce Chinese culture and myself and use a different view to show something close us. I was born at Chinese Valentine’s day, which has an old myth in China. My mother also told me, I do have different view and idea with others. As the stats in my work, I use Photoshop to make it like a human face, and she is a fairy from the heaven in the myth. My work is simple, just use stat to make a human face; however, it is important for me.

artists I like

Qi Baishi and his painting

He is one of the most famous traditional Chinese painter in the China. His painting focus on country images such as creek，shrimp, and crab.

 

Takeshi Murakami and his artwork

I think Takeshi Murakami will be the most famous artists in Japan today. He create superflat theory and ueing colorful and cultural thing in his artwork.

 

Alfred Alexander Gockel and his painting

He use black figures with beautiful lighted colorful in his painting and let the viewer have a huge color contrast in the visual.

 

Mark Rothko and his artwork

He is an abstract painter who resisted abstract expressionist. His artwork is easy to understant and also have huge contrast in the his artwork.

 

Andy Goldsworthy and his artwork

His artwork is ephemeral and transient, but it do real good.

Yoshitomo Nara is a Japanese artists who all the artwork only about a same girl.

Zhang Daqian and his painting

Zhang Daqian is a Chinese painter, lot of people think he combine traditional Chinese painting with west painting; however, i dont think he improve traditional Chinese painting in his artwork, even some Chinese painting did in 1,000 years before better than his.

Vincent Willem Van Gogh and his painting

Van Gogh is very famous painter in the world, but i dont why his painting cannot give me a feeling about beautiful.

Pablo Picasso and his painting

Picasso also is one of the great painter as we know, but his painting is too deep to understand for me.
